Lavender Grove Extension
The extension of this Hackney terraced house is sensitive and understated on first inspection, but the scheme conceals some simple and unexpected charms that elevate it to a level above a generic brick addition.
The client brief demanded more space with the proviso of retaining the character and scale of the Victorian house. We proposed a minimal brick extension modern in treatment, but sympathetic in scale and material. This small addition is punctured by a large square window, which swings open to reveal a generous two-way window seat, creating a new opportunity to experience the garden and transforming its connection to the interior space.
